I used to say all the time “all I really want is to be happy” in response to people asking me what I wanted to do with my life.
My response was an automatic reply. I did not put much thought into it. I just responded from my heart.
Little did I know that my response was bang on (I didn’t know I was so smart!).
Most people respond they would like this and that … like money, cars, to be rich, health, etc.
But if you really take 2 seconds to dig into why people want that they want, it will become apparent, that they want them because it gives them something.
Do you know what it is?
Have you ever said (or heard someone say) “I’ll be happy when a get my promotion” or “when I am rich” or “I get my new car”?
Most people have. And you probably have experienced many things that when you achieved them made you happy.
How long were you happy? How long did your happiness last? Was it a long time? Was it minutes? Days? Weeks? Months?
I can tell you with absolute certainty that the happiness did not last.
You still have that new car, but the happiness it gave you did not last very long.
We do everything to feel better with the ultimate goal being to achieve happiness, being in joy.
The problem is we are hoping that external things will bring us this lasting happiness.
I got some news for you … happiness is an inside job.
Happiness has nothing to do with material possessions. It has everything to do with you deciding to be happy – no matter what.
So, instead of searching (all your life) for external things to make you feel better (feel happy), take a short cut and achieve happiness now.
It is yours for the taking.
The easiest way to achieve happiness … is to be happy.
